I’m Erik Christiansen, and I’m passionate about creating intuitive, user-friendly digital experiences. With over ten years of professional experience in the information science field, I bring a unique blend of exceptional research and writing skills, a lifelong interest in technology, and a passion for user research and user interface design.

My journey into the world of technology and UX began as a child when I first got acquainted with my family’s Atari 1040 ST computer. This early exposure sparked a fascination that has grown into a career dedicated to enhancing user experiences and making technology accessible for everyone.

I'm a graduate of the BCIT UI/UX program. I also hold a Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies (University of Alberta) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations (University of British Columbia). Having worked in education technology, instructional design, and as an academic librarian, I've had the privilege to work on many technology implementation projects and web initiatives. My diverse background gives me the skills to conduct user research effectively.

Skills

I’ve developed a comprehensive skill set in user research, academic writing, information architecture, prototyping, and user testing. I am proficient with a variety of research and design tools such as Figma, FigJam, Miro, Adobe XD, Adobe Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator), Google Workspace, Qualtrics, NVivo, Microsoft Office 365, Useberry, FigJam, etc.

Collaboration is at the heart of my work. I believe the best solutions come from working closely with clients and stakeholders, listening to their needs, and integrating their feedback into the design process. I pride myself on being approachable and enjoy the opportunity to work with new people.

Principles

  • Determination: Surrender isn't in my vocabulary. Regardless of a project's complexity, whether a writing piece or a presentation, I commit to delivering the best outcome possible.
  • Obsess over quality: Strive for excellence in every detail, ensuring top-tier quality in all endeavours.
  • Perseverance: I prioritize gradual improvement over instant success.
Strong Relationships: I prioritize relationships built on mutual respect, enduring through both good times and bad.
  • Creativity and Imagination: I value creativity—especially the ability to consider bold strategies and pursue unconventional solutions.
  • Dependability: Trustworthiness is key for me, both in myself and others. I value being reliable and appreciate when others demonstrate the same reliability.

Other Interests

  • Music: I've played electric guitar for over fifteen years.
  • Cycling: I love no physical activity more than a long early morning bike ride in the summer.
  • Blogging: Writing about the technology industry, productivity tools, and strategies since 2013.
  • Podcasting: Co-host the "Examining" podcast, focusing on technology and productivity.
  • History: Interested in history - particularly stoicism, economic history, and 20th-century conflicts.

Connect with Me

I'm always excited to connect with others who share an interest in UX research and design. Whether you have a project in mind, need some insights, or just want to chat about UX, I'd love to hear from you.
